So, I actually set my travel alarm clock this morning to wake up at 04:45 and finish putting together my costume stuff for work (very exciting, I'm sure) and to get to the gym.
I got to the gym a little later than my normal morning time, which is currently 06:15, and put my stuff away. Before I started working out, I requested the bioelectric impedance test for body fat. I was well hydrated (which according to what I have read makes for a more accurate reading), so my body fat percentage was over 2.5 percentage points lower than it was when I last did that (over 6 months ago).
Then Kristen, the trainer who checked my body fat, asked a few questions, and I got her to show me some of the 'free' weight style machines, specifically the one for doing squats. So, I will probably add regular squats to my routine along with the new ball squats that she showed me (still trying to up the strength and stamina in my left leg, so I avoid injury).
Kristen and I discussed running, which I am getting back to after being mostly off it since high school over 10 years ago... The last time I ran regularly (which still wasn't as regularly as when I was on track for high school) was when I was in AFROTC and I ran with Speedy (oh, Speedy, where are you!?) or Scoit around the lake or did solitary laps on the indoor track. It wasn't terribly concentrated and I was much more interested in classes and the like. We went to the Star Trac machine and figured out how to set up an interval workout (where intervals are speed based rather than incline as the preprogrammed ones on the Precor machines are). So, I did a slow interval today - 5 min at 4mph alternated with 5 min at 5mph. The machine sort of encourages one to make your intervals large (rather than 1 minute at 4mph and 4 minutes at 5mph...) because you have to enter each one individually. So, I entered 5 intervals today, but if I did the above (1@4 and 4@5) I would have entered 10 intervals for the same amount of time. Annoying, but not horrible.
I have an appointment with Kristen tomorrow after work to go over making the upper body lifting fun, because there are only about 2 exercises I like there so I am horribly inconsistent.
Maybe with all this work, I will be able to get back to my old routine of 4 days a week at the gym and walking on the weekends.
